Frugal crochet
Its that time of year again when I like to cosy up and do a spot of crochet - as the blanket grows, it keeps me warm! I am using up all the odd balls of wool from the huge stash that my mum threw out last year - so it isn't costing me anything.
I have made 3 blankets already from this stash - and it doesn't seem to be going down!!!

Meanwhile, down south, someone else had sent her husband up into the loft to retrieve her stash of yarn and she had set about crocheting throws for Christmas presents. I knew it would all come in handy one day! :O)

Lovely blanket (top pic - I can't see the second one?) - looks very cosy. I can't crochet (memo to self - must learn), so I'm always looking out for them in charity shops, but they're like gold-dust!

ReplyDeleteDiane thanks for visiting my blog. I also love to crochet and have several blankets around the house. My husband is very tall, so our bed is 6' x 6'6" and we have a full tuck in crochet blanket for that. I have to say it took my quite a while to do!!! Diane

Since finding moths in my lovely wool shed that is what I am also planning once I finish Josie's blanket (which I may add isn't costing nothing, my fault, let a 16 year old choose her own wool....big mistake!!)I think I will try using some of the 4ply double just to use it up (after tying where the blighter have burrowed in together!! ARRRGGGHHH!!!!)

The word variation is coushion - maybe that is a sign of what to make....... a sort of cushion!!
Crochet is the one thing I've never been able to crack. Is there anyone that teaches it close to us? (I'm in Great Houghton.) I'm knitting an Aran jumper at the moment, but it's British wool and very rough, so I do a bit then have a long while off until my skin heals.
ReplyDeleteIt looks lovely Diane. I've never had the patience to do a whole blanket but I've managed to muster 2 cushion covers and am currently attempting a third. I tend to get my wool from charity shops if I can.

I love how frugal crochet is! I made 25 huge granny squares from a stash of wool I've had for years and years and it barely dented it.

ReplyDeleteGreat that you are using up yarn and not having to spend money, though I find crochet is quite economical with yarn and I buy budget brands.Usually a ball a week at £1.50 ish so it's not a big indulgence :0)

I'm doing one in the colours of our 80s VW camper... hideous colours but they match the interior perfectly!
