6 beautiful butter knifes(£1.50) and a cake knife (£1.45)...
all with the very important "Made in Sheffield" on the blades.
A pretty glass candlestick, (£1.00)
Some wool to make a scarf for the WI craft stall - 50p the lot(Its a much nicer colour than it looks here).
And more than enough books to keep me going until my next visit. They sell paperbacks for 60p and hardbacks are either 75p or £1.00!!!
The entire haul came to less than £10. I call that a bargain.

ReplyDeletegreat finds nothing like Made in Sheffield cutlery - I got a fab map yesterday on cloth entitled '70miles about Sheffield' - not sure how old it is but it was from Pawson and Brailsford, 1 High Street, Sheffield I will have to do some research.

So glad you like the book - did you find my Dad - it took me a long time before I could really look at the book - even the front inside page with my Grandma and Grandad on made me cry - now Dad is no longer here though I have found it a great comfort. Did you spot him? I will look forward to your post on it I might even reveal myself to you in my chubby baby form. Lol gonna keep you waiting. Just been on Sew and Sew and guess what your favourite beach is mine too. Is it the one with the nice cafe on it we always have a cup of tea and a kitkat. We no how to live it up!

ReplyDeleteI love the charity shops. Last year I got a full set (6) of beautiful fish knives and forks which were the exact match of the ones that my Mum had all her life. There was only 5 forks and 4 knives left in her set so now I can sit 10 down at the table for a fish meal! Think the set of 6 cost me £1.50. As for books I always take a huge supply of paperbacks back to France with me as buying english books there is not so easy. As I read them I pass them on to friends who have gites and a B & B and they are building up quite a library. Diane
ReplyDeleteGreat finds, Diane especially the Sheffield made knives. Just seeing them brought back memories of tea time at my aunt's house - she would stand an uncut loaf on one end, cut the crust off the other then butter the bread first and cut off a perfect slice - I was always fascinated watching her pile up the buttered slices:)

ReplyDeleteExcellent shopping. Charity shop bargains make us so happy and it's sensible for them to sell things at a good price. If paperbacks are under £1 people buy lots, sometimes they are around £2.50 and stick on the shelves. You've obviously found a great shop, well done.

ReplyDeleteYou certainly did get some bargains! I was looking for the Olive Tree by Carol Drinkwater in the library on Friday but they didn't have it! Our charity shops around here are full of tat and never have anything worth buying. I will have to move up to where you are!!!x
