What's Black and White ......

and read all over? The signs in Wentworth Village.

I love this old sign - a relic from when we were in the "West Riding" and not South Yorkshire.

I had to walk across the grass to take this photo! What a rebel!

Lots of my favourite things - all on one sign!
Must organise a brewery trip. It is only a small micro brewery, but I'd still like a nosey around.

I bet some of the signs are fairly old, and I bet they were all made locally by craftsmen. So much nicer (and longer lasting) than modern day street furniture.

  4. They're much nicer signs, aren't they? We have wooden pathway signs here, and I like those.

  7. Love the West Riding road signs - you are lucky to live near such lovely places. I think I could cope with the tea room, garden, antiques gifts and curios too - save me a cuppa I'm on my way:)

  8. The old road sign is grand. As a girl born in the East Riding I too regret the introduction of the new regions. Part of the East Riding went into Humberside the rest into North Yorkshire and suddenly we didn't live in North Yorkshire anymore we were in Cleveland.

  12. The old signs are lovely - take it Paradise Square is the one in Sheffield or have you got one locally? I really wish we still had the old county names (and boundaries!)The West Riding sounds so much more romantic than South Yorkshire.

  21. Now Diane - how do you Yorkies pronounce Nether Haugh? I would say Huff (or perhaps How)

And as for Greasebrough - Greezebru (short 'u' as in Hug)

    Lovely signs, and great photos.
