Great excitement this morning as hubby shouted up to me whilst I was having a leisurely bath. And with just a bath towel wrapped around me, I dashed out into the garden with my camera to capture the first glimpse of our tiny babies. They have chosen the windiest day to try to learn to fly and sadly one of them was lying lifeless under the nest box - my lettucey crash pad didn't save him. We have seen 2 in the garden, and there are still lots of cheep cheeps coming from the box.
Oh bless - they are just TOO CUTE, and a worry I bet!
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed

Oh how lovely!! I feel your pain though, I know what I've been like with my duck babies!
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed that the majority of them make it through!
How cute are they?! x
ReplyDeleteThe ebb and flow of life happens in our garden too - it is just too cruel!
ReplyDeleteThey are so sweet and so vulnerable but hopefully most will make it! We have just had great fun watching the baby starlings on the lawn and fence waiting to be fed by mum or dad - they make so much noise:)
ReplyDeleteYou were just complaining on your last post about your own kids flying away from your nest..how cute!

What cuties! I LOVE that you made them a crash pad, but I guess fate is fate... Hope they continue to visit you as they grow up :)
ReplyDeleteOh, how cute. It seems we never have enough of babies, once our own are all grown up and independent we start worrying about someone else's.
ReplyDeleteAww. Can't be easy trying to learn in this wind.
ReplyDeleteI'm always amazed at how hard the parents work to keep their babies well fed. We once had a nest in the gap behind the conservatory, and the chicks flew out straight into the glass. It was heartbreaking!
ReplyDeleteWe don't seem to have any nests this year.

p.s. I've got 6lbs to lose from today ... it's going very slowly indeed! I'm going to stay away from Food Fayres.
Oh I hope they didnt get blown down, they look pretty young.
ReplyDeleteWe've got a very cute baby robin in our garden, I just cant get the camera quick enough!
and you thought all your baby worries were over! they are cute Diane, fingers crossed!

Just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteNow I'm worrying about them - hope they give you a fly by to show you they're OK
Oh I do hope some of them survive. What a dreadfully windy day to try to fly. Do tell us what happens.

ReplyDeleteHoping they survived. What a day to take flight..........!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful. Hope the little chap dried out & had a snack from mum !
ReplyDeleteSo cute - I would worry too but as one of the children once told me at the school where I was working 'It's the circle of life Mrs G isn't it'. Things are born and some die. Like the Lion King. She was 4 bless her and gave this response after I had explained to the children that the tadpoles had died. Hope your babies do well keep posting photos - putting up more nest boxes is on my list for next year. Not long for hols now whoop!!!!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I hope the one you rescued from the pond survived.

Oh what a good samaritan and friend to all winged beasts you are. Any news?
ReplyDeleteAW, what sweet babies.
ReplyDeleteThis must be the worst possible weather for learning to fly,it was so sad that one didn't make it. Do hope the one who was in the pond survives and the others too.
