The only thing that matters at Christmas

Is there anybody out there who can get past the first 3 lines without blubbing with tears and snot and everything!!!! All these ladies have husbands out in Afghanistan.
I heard this for the first time this morning driving to work. My colleagues didn't know what to say when I walked in, and when I tried to explain that I had listened to a song that broke my heart - they looked at each other and still didn't know what to say to me!!
If you forget some ones card, if you buy Aldi mince pies instead of baking your own, if any minor point threatens to ruin your Christmas - just think on.xxxxx

  1. I feel so sorry for parents and wives who are in Afghanistan at any time but Christmas seems so much worse. I cannot play the video with my slow connection, probably just as well as I don't want to sit here crying. t'other Diane

  3. Did you watch the programmes about the military wives? It was wonderful and heartbreaking every week.
Did you know the lyrics of the song were taken from words and phrases from the letters they had been exchanging with their husbands in Afghanistan! The title was etched on a bracelet that belonged to one of the wives.
And Gareth Malone .... how good is he?

  6. I can now listen to it on the radio without blubbing - however when they first sung at the Festival of Remembrance even MrVV's eyes leaked.

I do hope they are No1 for christmas :)

  7. No, I love that record. Loved all Gareth Malone's programmes. My hero, they should clone him and give one to every single community, he is inspirational.
I shall be ordering a copy and hoping it does make No. 1.
Go the Wives! They are heroes too.

  11. Now I'm going to bed crying. A very moving video and how sad that our men are still having to go to war. When will the world be at peace?

  12. There is something about the human voice when all raised together in song makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck. It is moving:)

  15. My friend's son has just gone out for his first tour of duty. He was only out a few weeks then came back for his grandad's funeral. Its things like this that help them and their families feel better, knowing that we think and care for them.

  16. I saw a few snippets of the programmes but I hadn't seen this. I'm not surprised there wasn't a dry eye in the Albert Hall!

  18. Thank you SO much for sharing this video. Even through my tears, I'm passing it along to friends here in the states. As the mum of one who has been deployed, this song speak so eloquently for all of us left behind and waiting!
    Beautifully done!
