The Isles of Scilly

Well done if you spotted it was the Isles of Scilly.
We had a holiday in four phases this time, and the 3rd phase was a wonderful 7 day trip across to the very beautiful Isles of Scilly - just off the coast of Cornwall.  (I'll show you phases 1, 2 and 4 later).  The Islands have been on my "list" for a very long while, but I had mistakenly thought that a holiday here would cost a fortune -  it needn't and it didn't.

We did treat ourselves to flights across.  This is much more affordable now that we only pay for the 2 of us.  The planes are a bit of an adventure though.  We flew from Lands End (which is basically a field on the edge of a cliff!) and our plane only had 8 seats.  You sit with the pilot!
It only takes 15 minutes to fly across.  You can take the Scillonian Ferry from Penzance which takes 2.5 hours and is a bit cheaper.
We flew over the point of Lands End and the Longships lighthouse.
Sennen Cove looked gorgeous from the air.
On arrival, we were transferred to our cosy apartment in Hugh Town St Mary's by a friendly taxi driver - it was a 7 minute drive!  We dropped our cases and went out exploring.  Everything looked so blue and the waters are crystal clear..

As you know, Agapanthus is one of my favourite flowers and they grow like weeds everywhere here.
Our apartment was superbly placed and we had the town harbour beach out of our back door with all the colourful boats.  We caught different boats each morning to explore the out lying islands and it was only a 5 minute walk to the quayside from our flat.  If you walked out of the front door of the flat, and walked about 50 paces, you were on yet another stunning beach.
We loved exploring and finding gorgeous little places.  I had discovered this webcam before I left home and so was able to call the young man (who was home alone)when we ate here to tell him to log on whilst I waved to him.
You seem to be able to have every beach to yourself on any island and you begin to feel like Robinson Crusoe after a while.

The sand is also very glittery and at the end of every day I was very sparkly.

As I use my blog as a diary, i'll show you what else we got up to on the Isles over the next few days.

How wonderful! I would love to see those wild agapanthus - I love them but they won't grow here. I remember going to St Mary's on that ferry when I was quite young - we had a coach tour around the island and I remembe loads of greenhouses and the driver pointing out PM Harold Wilson's home. It was raining all the time! Your phtos have made me see how beautiful it is and what we missed seeing on that trip:)
