Tonight we did a lovely walk with our walking group. We walked from Wortley around Wharncliffe Woods up to Wharncliffe Crags. This walk is about 4 miles from home and to my shame I have never been up here before. I love discovering the most gorgeous and exciting places are right on my doorstep.
The Bluebells in the woods are at their very best at the moment.
It had been a bit of a muggy day, but as soon as we assembled in the car park for our walk, the heavens opened, it thunder and lightened - but it didn't put us off!! Several people had turned up with no waterproofs and got incredibly drenched (there was some improvisation with plastic carrier bags!!), but everybody enjoyed the beautiful surroundings and great views.
I shall be re walking this route at a slower pace next time to take in the fabulous surroundings, and I shall also be bringing my Geology expert so that he can explain the magnificent rocks.
It was so much better than watching the rain through my window at home.

ReplyDeleteI've never been to Wharncliffe Crags either, it does look beautiful, think I'll suggest a walk up there with my friend P and her dog who is B Baggins' best friend. Not in a thunderstorm though! Rain is fine if you are dressed for it but lightning is a whole different ballgame as far as I'm concerned!!

I heard on the local news that there had been thunder and lightening over Sheffield - it looks a lovely walk and I bet it was gorgeous after the storm:)
