Seasonal Colour

I was at the garden centre on Saturday morning (birthday breakfast for my sister), and I noticed lots of Autumnal colours.

Pumpkins ready to be carved.

Winter plants.

Golden glow

I thought I would show you some of the walled garden that isn't maintained - I would love to step back in time and see these walls when they were at their best. I think that these might have been for exotic fruits as they are painted white and have evidence of heating ducts in the walls themselves (and you can see the chimney at the end). They would have certainly have had glass on these walls.

These are the potting sheds behind the wall - all sadly unused. I would love to work in a productive walled garden.

The old walled gardens at Wentworth are vast. It would have been a fabulous sight when they were in full swing.

And the Acers in the Ornemental garden are displaying their beautiful Autumn colours too

Oooh I love a good acer. Mum has one and it's my favourite of all her plants. And there's something about the colour of pumpkins that makes me feel warmer on the inside immediately.

(Total fallacy that cats don't care about humans you know. Pickle used to stop eating for days when I would go back to university each term.)

Those are great photos, Diane! The heated walls would have, I am sure, been used to grow peaches, figs and apricots, which were exotic fruits then. I think I have read of pineapples being grown, too!

I would love to be able to step back in time and see all these wonderful gardens being cultivated!

Love the pumpkins! We're not much into the Halloween thing here, last Sunday at the supermarket there were a few ones with a sad sign "not edible-for carving", but not as big as yours.
Diane, I wish I could have your time and amount of subjects for blogging so frequently! (just spotted your new post :)

Lovely colours - I love all the autumnal shades. Our pumpkins are sitting on the top of the fridge waiting to be carved - they are turning from yellow to orange now although not as deeply orange as those in your photo:)

Great colours on that acer. Lovely photos all round, makes you think of times gone by when the big houses had an army of gardeners.
