Newmillerdam

A while ago, a lovely lady called Diane dropped by and left me a nice comment. I went through to have a look at her blog which was amazing, detailing her "Adventures before Dementia". I loved looking at all the places she has visited, but then discovered that even though she lives as far on the other side of world as you can get, she was in fact born just a few miles away from me. And so for you Diane, today I persuaded the family to have a walk around the lake at Newmillerdam - between Barnsley and Wakefield.

When we arrived, a spooky mist hung over the water.

The water is starting to thaw, but is still mainly ice, causing confusion for the ducks.
We only did the short walk, because we were accompanied by the whinging kids who only agreed to come as long as I never used my phrase "around the corner" - a ploy I have used to make them walk that little bit further ever since they were tiny.

By the time we got round to the Boathouse, the mist had started to clear. There was even a promise of blue skies - perhaps tomorrow.

I hope you enjoyed your little walk around the lake Diane, and have a lovely time at your wedding.

More spooky pictures and then those red doors! They really stand out.
Hope you are feeling better and the walk did you good to get out and about.
Wishing you and all the Heartshaped family a happy and healthy 2011.

Your post brought back a memory of me pushing my (now 22 year old) son around Newmillerdam in his pushchair, the night was really drawing in and there was a mist too - it spooked me out and I have never walked so fast back to the car in my life!

I'm just catching up from Christmas and I'm so sorry to hear that you and Dancing Queen were ill over Christmas. I was ill last year so we heaved a sigh of relief when we were all fine this year, though hubby has started with a cold now, only to be expected I suppose, we can't go through the whole festive season without someone going down with something. Happy belated wedding anniversary, how lovely to have a Christmas wedding. I wonder if there was snow on your wedding photos. I love the cards you've made. I used to do quite a bit of card making myself but I haven't done any for ages now, I must dig out all my craft bits and get going again. I wrote about Newmillerdam on my blog, http://jo-throughthekeyhole.blogspot.com/2010/10/sunday-morning-walk.html . My autumnal photos are quite different to your winter ones though. Happy New Year, Diane. May 2011 bring health, happiness and peace to the Heart Shaped household.

THANK YOU! I am honoured that you have dedicated this post t me. I returned yesterday from our trip to Victoria for the wedding. I will post about it soon. I have been catching up with your posts that I missed. Sorry to hear that you and DG have been sick. Hope you are feeling better now. Your photos of the dam are great. it sure looks spooky. I can only vaguely remember walking around the lake with my mother when I was 5. I did visit there in 2008 but we didn't do the walk. We were heading towards Manchester airport. My place of birth looks awfully cold and I admire you walking in those temperatures and saying you enjoy the fresh air. How different to where I live now. It is always warm here even in winter. It hasn't stopped raining for 2 months and half the state is under water but it is still warm. Thank you again. Loved all your previous posts, hope your Christmas lunch will be better next year.
