My favourite place in any stately house is "Below Stairs". I thought I would show you some more images from Kedelston Hall featuring some Below Stairs images (with a few Upstairs shots mixed in!)
Just to get you in the mood for "Downton Abbey's" return this coming Sunday evening.

What great photos, love these tours. t'other Diane
I like "Below Stairs" too. It can be an eye opener to what life would have been like for the poor servants!!Cx
Belated Birthday Wishes. Your Hope & Elvis day looks fantastic. Loving the look of all the below stairs shots here and can't wait for "Downton" to start on Sunday.
I prefer downstairs too. I've taken classes to Croxteth Hall, and Speke Hall (both in Liverpool) when we have spent the day as servants .... all dressed up too! I've worked in the kitchen, and polished landings and bath tubs! Really hard work!!! I think I'd rather be a teacher!!!
Can't wait for Downton Abbey!
I can't wait for the new series of Downton to start, it will be feet up, pot of tea, and a wonderful hour of pure escapism.
Great pics, thank you for sharing! I also love the below stairs area in National Trust houses. Lizzie
Great pictures as always. I am always fascinated by the below stairs and also the attic bedrooms where the domestics lived. My Nan, mum of aunty who wrote the book, was in service first in Newcastle, where she saw her first oriental gentleman, and then in Scarborough across from The Grand Hotel. She was 14 when she went away to work - can't imagine it can you. OBTW - saw my sister today who commented on my H&E post and she said Oh Diane that's a blog I always read. There you go you famous lady you. Also when I showed the girl's my pressie and said who it was from Nellie squealed and said 'Oh Heartshaped -how fab is that'. TTFN.
very DOWNTON ABBY
ARE you going to see the Damian Hirst sculptures over at chatsworth soon?
Bet it takes ages to clean those copper molds ! Looking forward to Downton Abbey too xx
wow........have booked my sofa for Sunday night too!!
What a great place, can't wait for it to start again over here.
Love Downton Abbey I'll be thinking of you this Sunday. Joan x
The "Waste not Want not" notice for staff in the kitchen of such a grand house always amuses me!
When we moved-in, we discovered that there is a bell-call system installed in our 1920s villa. Sadly, there are no servants to answer our calls.
Anna
I love below stairs too.
I love the downstairs bit (must feel at home there, know my place!) can't wait to see Downton Abbey again.
