St Valery Sur Somme

We travelled down through Picardy in Northern France on Monday morning. It is a vast area and beautiful, but a bit boring as there is not much to see from the motorway. We decided to stop off near the coast for a breath of sea air. I fancied the look of St Valery Sur Somme which is situated on the amazing Baie de Somme.

The whole area is a great place to view nature. It has great bird watching spots and also seal colony's.
St Valery definately looked "out of season" - very very quiet but still great to look around - and without the crowds.
It is a great little town with typical french houses.
It has a wonderful long promenade - I think you could walk for miles along here.
We saw people hiring Kayaks and Canoes to explore the Baie and the Somme river and canal.
Despite being bombed everytime someone mentioned "war", a lot of the old medeival town still exists.

It was a great place to stretch our legs and explore. I wouldn't mind spending a bit more time around this area in future. xxx

I think you should be called 'pack it in Diane' not as in 'pack it in' = stop it - but pack it in = god how many places do you manage to cram into a holiday = you really don't waste a minute. Mildly jealous.

"I wouldn't mind spending a bit more time around this area in future" - You're going to need a lot of holidays to do that with all the places you've said that about! As always lovely pics, Diane.

Looks such a pretty place to spent some time.

It looks lovely. Just shows what treasures there are waiting to be explored just off the motorways.

It looks a beautiful place and so tranquil inspite of its place in wartime history. Your photos of the bay are lovely and I love the slightly pink house with the blue shutters:)

Been there. Camped in fact. Beautiful photos. Another lovely place is Montreuill (not sure if I've spelled that correctly) - think it's further north though.

It is amazing what you see when you leave the motorways, which is easy in your own car not so good in a tour bus. You have seen some lovely places. I have only heard of Somme in connection with war.
