Sledmere House & Gardens

On Sunday, we went to have a look around the village of Sledmere which was near our campsite.  The house and gardens were open, so we popped in for a look.  The house is still lived in and also used for weddings etc and it does have a great "lived in" feel about it.  It is set in fabulous parkland and has a feel that Mr Darcy could come calling at any given time!

It had a great walled garden - always my favourite type.

 The delphiniums were stunning.
I think I may have a go at growing Artichokes next year.  They look great while they are growing and I love them to eat - but I've never had a go at cooking them.  Must have a try.
I can just imagine Mr Darcy swimming across here!

The Chapel by the side of the house was lovely.
I think that this window was modern.  It was stunning.  You can't tell from my photo, but the crown of thorns was 3D.

I'll show you some other interesting bits of the estate later, and the sweet little village too.

I have always wanted to visit Sledmere, we drive by often on our way to the coast. It is so pretty, thanks for sharing Diane. I'm going to imagine Mr Darcy in his wet shirt for a while now, while I drink my coffee ;)

The house is both stately and elegant enough for Mr Darcy! I love the parterre and the door through to the walled garden, those delphiniums are wonderful as is the reflection of the house in the water. Thank goodness you had such lovely dry weather for your visit:)

What a wonderful place! And yes, Mr. Darcy could definitely come calling there - I can just see it in my mind!

It looks a lovely garden, too - and well kept.

I think I need a bit of a lay down after all that talk of Mr Darcy in his wet clothes!
Artichokes are very sculptural when growing aren't they.

What a beautiful house and garden. What a shame Mr Darcy didn't appear around the corner!
