Caernarfon

Another "first" this weekend for me was a stay in a hostel.  Our group all stayed in Caernarfon at Totters Independent Hostel which was a bit of a revelation for me!  Being a hostel the price was very low however it was spotlessly clean and in a fantastic position - this was the view from our room.

It had a great room for socialising in, and the basement housed a fantastic kitchen  and breakfast table where you could either cook your own food or make toast or cereals, tea and coffee that were provided free of charge.
Our room was a private double room (with a single bed with a pull out bed for 2 children) and was en suite.  It was exceptionally spacious and really really comfortable.  I would stay here again in this room like a shot.
After our walk shrouded in mist on Saturday, Sunday was a crystal clear day- perfect for exploring this beautiful little town.
My friend has lived here abouts since she moved away to university and she gave us a wonderful and very in depth tour of the town and the castle.  She pointed out all the things we would have normally missed and brought the ancient parts really to life with her knowledge - and humour!

It certainly made us want to go back and explore further.

Caernarfon looks really beautiful. Wonderful castle, great location, a harbour, somewhere eat to stay, and the company of an old pal - can't ask for more than that! xxx

Totters hostel looks great. I like Caernarfon - next time we visit I'd like to go up there on the Welsh Highland Railway from Porthmadog where we usually stay:)

It is so nice to see the castle on a bright blue and sunny day via your photos. The day I visited in 2009 was dark and wet, but we received a very thorough and interesting tour from Martin de Lewandowicz our guide who I believe lives nearby. My husband and I spent two weeks with him and 22 other Americans touring all round the England plus those two days in beautiful Wales.

Hi Diane, thanks for your comment. Wow it's certainly a small world sometimes isn't it. Martin was working for Rick Steves' Tour Company when we met him in 2009. We really enjoyed the tour thanks to him. We were not/are not very experienced travelers, so it makes a difference when you have someone really knowledgeable, and humorous too, showing you around. I'll never forget how to pronounce the Welsh consonant "ll" thanks to Martin!

Bloody hell you get round a lot! (In the nicest possible sense, that is.) I love your photography - not sure about the soldiers' bum, however.
