A room in which to "promenade"

My friend and I have been brushing up our french at evening classes here. Northern College in Barnsley, is no ordinary college. It is housed in the magnificent Wentworth Castle at Stainborough - once home to the Earls of Strafford. The library is magnificent and is situated in the long gallery on the top floor of the front of the house. I think that this is the room where the gentry would take their walks when it was inclement weather. Its certainly big enough!

We could have all done with a room like this over the winter! Any way, it certainly makes for a very impressive library.

Bonjour!!

Impressive it certainly is, and that fireplace is amazing. But can you imagine the heating bills?

I wonder if it's harder to learn such such distractions, certainly beats the dull classrooms I've experienced.

Very posh, I would be very studious in such grand surroundings!

Looks a fab place and very conducive to learning. I can imagine ladies of past times taking exercise along that gallery and praticing their french as they walk.

How amazing - it beats Spanish lessons in a soul-less community centre !

What a marvellous place to learn in, it must inspire you every time you go. It's funny how you get impressions of places from the names, I have to confess that the word Barnsley doesn't conjure up images like this! :):)
