Friends

I had a visit this weekend from a friend. I first met P in 1971 on our first day at Comprehensive school. She sat in front of me and we started chatting - we've been chatting ever since!

We have managed to stay in touch when she went to Uni and I didn't. When she moved to live in Athens (and I didn't!!) and even though she lives in the south, and I am in the north.
We have always had a lot in common, and our interests are still very similar.
We had our children at the same time and have seen each other about once a year since we had our first babies.
Her visit this weekend was well timed and coincided with hubby's working weekend. Her partner was away working too.
We had breakfast out, wandered around pretty villages, stately homes and gardens. We nattered and chattered - for hours and hours. Drunk tea, coffee, wine and gin and caught up on movies neither of us had seen.
I realised that it was the first time we had spent time just on our own since for over 25 years.
It was fab.

Aww that's lovely. I'm 29 and hate how my friends and I are separating in different directions, but like you, when we get together it's as though we've never been apart :)

It's great to have friends like that isn't it? You just pick up where you left off last time. My friend Sandi and I met when she was 11 and I was 10, we were bridesmaids to each other and we've always stayed in touch and like you see each other once or twice a year, we've been friends for 54 years now:)

It sounds wonderful - you are very lucky. I still write to people I was at Uni with and I haven't actually clapped eyes on them in 30 years! What's that all about?

I haven't heard the word 'natter for quite some time. My friend Janet, in Exmouth, and I used to natter all the time. That's a lovely grouping of Lupins. We used to have quite a few of these in our garden at Flamborough.

How great to have kept in touch over the years. I'm not so good at doing that but funnily enough have just heard from my best friend at school, after a gap of 40 years!

That sounds like a lovely day. I always think that it doesn't matter how long good friends are apart, you'll always have that bond whatever happens :-)
