The Sunday Kitchen

I had a go at this recipe from yestedays James Martin's Saturday Kitchen:
(I quite fancied James Martin up until I saw him on a program over Christmas where he was entering a classic car race, then I went right off him. He came over as a lot of a MCP). In true Diane style, I didnt stick to the exact recipe (Morcombe Bay Prawns are a tad difficult to get hold of in our Asda!!). Instead I used Salmon and made my own breadcrumbs and I served it with a stir fry of green beans, baby corn, bean sprouts and the stem from the broccoli (ie whatever I happened to have in the fridge.). I also experimented with a sauce made from bought Chilli dipping sauce heated up with Creme Fraiche. I initially thought that this might be a bit too much with the cakes, but it was delicious. I shall be making these (in one form or another) again. I made the Rissotto last night and left it in the fridge overnight. If there are only 2 of you, you could eat the rissotto one night and make the cakes out of the leftovers the day after.
The dancing queen (in red) and her friend decided that they wanted to learn how to make Pizza from scratch. I can never usually get her into the kitchen, but her friend was very keen and they now want to make it a regular thing, After much hilarity, complaining about onions, and flirting with boys on MSN whilst the dough was "proving" , they produced 4 beautiful and very edible Pizza's. Last photo was taken by DQ - she's so much better with the camera than I am. If you get chance, please visit her new blog (Beckytography in my sidebar and leave her a comment - she would be thrilled - Thanks)

Hi Diane, home made pizzas are the best! We haven’t made them for a while and have been resorting to M&S for our pizza nights with the kids. I think I will have to whip out the old bread machine and have another go.

Know just what you mean about James Martin - it was a surprise wasn't it? Turns out he's a bit of a diva.

Your salmon cakes look delicious - as does the pizza. We had home made fish pie yesterday - comfort food on such a wet and windy day:)

Those salmon cakes look ravishing! Wonder if the sauce would work with Greek Yoghurt? I can't eat most dairy stuff (yoghurt is OK).

I have never really fancied the male chefs, though Mr. G likes Rick Stein, he reckons he says a lot more sense and is less over the top than others!

Mmm that looks great! I was just going to ask what a MCP is so thanks for answering that. I used to get really peed off with James Martin when I used to watch Ready Steady Cook a lot because he always did bloody spun sugar. EVERY dessert had frigging spun sugar on top!

Hi Diane,
I love cooking with creme fraiche, well the low fat one, in fact I try to use it with anything instead of cream...sweet or savoury, some work some don't lol..I'll pop over to the dancing queen :0)

It's beautiful where you live judging from the photos - food looks delicious too. Best wishes.

Yes i know what you mean about the wind . Its very windy today just went out to fetch the washing in and there was a couple of socks in the hedge , a pair of knickers caught on a nail on the shed roof blowing like a little flag and towels twisted round and round the line. Quite comical really!! Fingers crossed for the weekend:)

Oh Diane, I know what you mean about James Martin! I used to fancy him like mad until I saw that selfsame programme you mentioned.
The food looks scrummy though, I know what you mean about recipes, I never leave them alone, but as long as the end result is great, why should you?

Don't you just hate it when you see ingredient in a recipe that you know you will never be able to get. I wish they'd suggest alternatives. It is so annoying!
Sounds like the girls had fun with their pizza making.
