Family life

Like most families with teenage kids, we find ourselves enjoy different hobbies and interests. And whilst we all still very much enjoy each others company, there are times when we indulge in our different interests. Hubby and the young man are nuts about sport, but the dancing queen and I are not so keen. So on Saturday, whilst DQ was working at her Saturday job, Hubby and the young man took themselves off to watch their team win 2-1 - a rarity this season!

whilst I looked for my own green shoots of recovery in the garden. The garden needed a lot of tidying up and cutting back and I had a great time - although my hands and arms look as if I "self harm" now!!
These 2 beauties are from what I grandly call my "winter border"

Then on Sunday, whilst the dancing Queen danced all day, and the young man enjoyed a preview weekend of a sports channel on Freeview TV, hubby and I squeezed in a little walk around the garden centre.
The best bit for me though, was when we all met up at 4pm at the "all you can eat" Chinese Buffett, before we headed out to watch the Sheffield Steelers Ice Hockey team (who unfortunately lost 5-2 to Hull), because we were all back together again, listening to the kids laughing and chattering away to each other. I like us to all do our own thing, but I do love it when we are all together.

I hope you enjoyed your weekend.

You enjoy it Diane, while the children are still at home! They soon fly the nest, and then it seems awfully quiet!

Sounds like a relaxing weekend! I did a bit of clearing in the garden yesterday - still a lot to do but at least I've made a start:)

My goodness you have reminded me that I really ought to invest in a new pair of gardening gloves and get out and tackle the mess that is our garden!!

Glad you had a nice weekend, it sounds just lovely - used to enjoy a bit of the ice hockey myself a few years back!

Much love

GO HULL!!!

(I like that I can be competitive even when I have no interest whatsoever in the sport. It's still my home town!! And to be fair we got a thumping in the football this weekend from Man Utd so I guess we have to take our wins wherever we find them!)

Hi Diane ... thanks for joining in on my blogiversary music challenge and giveaway. Radio Luxembourg 208 .... tranny under the pillow .... waking up with flat batteries most mornings! I vividly remember listening in the early hours of 16th August 1977 to Tony Prince announcing that the King was dead ... and what a music legacy Elvis left ... I love his old stuff but don't really like the Las Vegas years. Nice to see some green shoots in your garden too .... mine looks like a boggy marsh after all the snow. We have clay soil and the water just lays on the top and now the dogs have romped up and down in it I can't wait for some dry weather and warm sunshine to dry it all out for the summer. x

That sounds all so lovely! It’s true, people have such different interests, what makes it so rewarding is when you can still find the time to enjoy things together

Your weekends always sound quite action-packed which is great.
An all you can eat Chinese meal sounds scrumptious, mmm.

This is a truly heartwarming post! I love the idea of being able to do things separately at times, but of being so much together at the same time, a true family unit. I love the fact that you are all able to enjoy the small things in life and appreciate them for what they are.
Even the teenagers!
