There's no such thing as a free lunch!

So on Saturday night, hubby suggested that on Sunday, we ought to go out for Sunday lunch. Did I fancy it? Well yes, if someone else is going to do the cooking, count me in! So, do we do what normal people do and don our Sunday best and drive out to a nice country pub? Not quite. Instead, we put on our walking gear and park 3 miles away from the pub and trudge over moors, finding the only snow left in South Yorkshire!
We walked from the Norfolk Arms at Ringinglow, to the Fox House at Longshaw. A walk with superb views and a decent pub at each end. We left Sheffield bathing in sunlight in the valley below.

Nearly every one of the pines at the edge of the forest had been broken by the weight of the snow.
It really is spectacular but very bleak across this moor. It was hard walking as the snow was really deep in parts, and where it had melted and then froze again, the ice was like a Glacier!!!

After 3 hard miles, Roast Beef and all the trimmings and a couple of halves of "Black Sheep" went down a treat! However, all I wanted to do after that was curl up in front of the roaring log fire and snooze, so the 3 mile back to the car was even harder going!!

I felt marvellous and full of fresh air afterwards though. Well worth the trudge.
So what did I make on Saturday afternoon then? (Serious crafters please look away now!!)
I save all the cards that we receive over the year. I hate to just throw them away as some of them are really lovely and cards cost a fortune in the shops these days. I wait until a dreary day in January, then set about cutting, glueing and sticking, and make all the cards I am going to need for this year.
As you can see I am a messy worker!
I use 3d sticky pads and a few other embellishments. Ive now made all my Christmas cards for this year - and all the tags too! (Its the Virgo in me!)

And Ive also made lots of birthday cards for the coming year too.

Well it stops me from getting bored. xx

cor - you really worked for that meal didn't you ?

Love the cards - we usually make next year's tags from the old card.

Have picked up a bug but managed to get my compost heap & veggie patch marked out & cooked a roast !!!

That's the level of mess I work in too.............. The walk looked and sounded wonderful. What a shame about the trees..........

Good going!! I got as far as cutting out all the Christmas cards to make in to tags but definitely hadn't thought about turning them in to new Christmas cards!

Beautiful pictures of the moors Diane and I bet you feel loads better after the walk?? (cough, cough)- all I would of wanted to do was curl up too.

I think I would of stayed in the pub for a couple more quick halves and made hubby go back and get the car!!

Have a lovely week,

Nina xx

One of our team has been snowed in where she lives near Padley Gorge. And when I went to Grindleford last week to visit the dentist it still looked bad - So you were brave for doing that walk - hope you got a pudding as well! ...

Love the idea of the cards - so organised.

You must be getting seriously fit by now. And how enterprising you are with the cards, all ours got sent to the Recycling Plant immediately after Christmas - hasty or what?

Your organisation is very impressive! the cards look lovely. You cant beat eating out, at least you dont have to worry about the washing up afterwards!!

I bet that roast beef dinner didn't touch the sides after all the trudging through the snow!
Yor cards look great. We do the cards into gift tag thing, but making new ones is a great idea!

Clever stuff! And a great walk. Only wish I could contemplate a glacial walk with such equinamity!

A big challenging walk rewarded by a roast dinner sounds like a wicked thing to do - shame about the trudging back afterwards - then you want a taxi! But good on you for doing it! I can imagine how good you must have felt after - except maybe stiff legs perhaps the next day?!

And my, my how organised you are with the card making! Good way to recycle too though! :) xxx

Well you put us all to shame being so organised.

What a wonderful way to spend a Sunday, it looks absolutely stunning.

What a wonderful walk! I don't think I'd have wanted to walk very far after a meal like that either. Sounds like a great Sunday:)

I do love a good blow! Wlaking is always so invigorating, especially in this weather! Mr.Boodle insists on two a day and sometimes it feels a real chore! Like now! but I will love it when I get out there.(fingers crossed, it has started to snow quite heavily now!)

Now you simply must photo your flower girl embroidery, I am dying to see it/hear all about it!

What a wonderful way to spend the morning, I bet you really enjoyed your lunch after that...
Love your cards, such a splendid array you made. I too save all the cards I receive, to make new ones... However, I am not half as organized as you are. Two weeks before Christmas I start panicing, and it is shop-bought ones allround again for Christmas!

Blimey, you have been busy. Now I'm wishing I hadn't put the Christmas cards in the recycling bag!

Love those cards - how organised!! I think I'd have been calling for a 4x4 to come and get me after a lunch like that - if made to walk 3 mile afterwards I'd have thrown a strop to make a 5yr old proud..
Have a good Sunday,

Hello Diane

I bet you were ready for that pint when you landed at the Fox, isnt that a gorgeous old place? The photographs are lovely, although the sheer chilliness they conveyed did make me shiver a bit! Lovely cards too, I envy you for the patience you must have, they're smashing!

Love Julia x x x

Wow Diane - you are mega organised - love the cards!

Which reminds me, I emailed you before christmas for your address but you didn't reply - I think I could have an old email for you - would you mind sending me an up-to-date one when you have time :) x

Yes, my desk looks a bit like that most of the time! Recycling your cards is a great idea and I sort of do the same thing with some of my cards. I keep extra special ones to stick in my sketchbooks and recycle the rest. Your photographs are stunning and I love the sound of the place "Ringinglow" like it should be in a childrens' story book

Have a good week Diane. I must email you to make arrangements. Is it soon?
