Sheffield ready!

On Sunday we had to walk through the cultural quarter of the city. We noticed lots of activity. The 2 main theatres sit side by side - the Lyceum on the left here, and the Crucible on the right.

I love the beautiful old fashioned Lyceum, but I also love the iconic Crucible just as much.

I always photograph them from the front, but as we were crossing the road behind, I took a photograph of the Lyceum from the back.
And Ive never photographed the statue of Mercury from this angle either..

... and was fairly surprised when I viewed the photo. Don't look Ethel!!!!
The crucible has just had a complete refit, and today was being prepared for the enormous sporting event that is...... (no, not the blummin Olympics), but of course....
The snooker.
I'm not a huge fan of it myself, but I love the buzz that it brings to the city. We will be going for a wander round when it is in full swing to see who we can spot!

The crucible is so well known for the snooker. I used to watch bits of it when I was younger, I totally lost interest and couldn't tell you who any of the stars are these days. It was Steve Davis and Dennis Taylor in my day.

I used to enjoy watching snooker with my dad. A good match with Jimmy White would get us on the edge of our seats!
Bit nippy for Mercury way up there I would have thought!

I enjoy the snooker though only from the Crucible, I'm not particularly interested the rest of the year. I used to take my sone when they were young and saw a lot of the top players from the Steve Davis, Cliff Thorburn era. I'd forgotten it was on so will look out for it on TV.

Great photos! I bet the snooker brings a huge buzz to the city centre. I had to smile at 'don't look Ethel' - I remember that song too:)

I've not been to Sheffield, your day out has encouraged me to check it out some day. Question is when will I be going in that direction next?....as I live in Wales. Need a reason.
