Mary Street, Sheffield

I was looking for somewhere recently when I came across Mary Street in Sheffield.  It is a shortish post industrial street in the heart of the city, and a good example of how the old workshops in the heart of the city are being "recycled".  The Porter Brook gushes through this part of the city on it's way to join the river Sheaf before joining the river Don.  I noticed a sign that said that the Japanese Knotweed (something that I have seen an explosion of around these parts this summer) is being dealt with.  I really love this ancient industrial little brook.

The street has a fabulous mixture of old buildings, some already converted into apartments, student accomodation, fantastic art galleries  etc, and some awaiting a new purpose.

Like in Paris, you sometimes have to peer through the entrance gateways to see what lies behind.  I plan to visit Here when I get chance.  Very swanky.  I believe it is owned by someone from New York who prefers Sheffield! I keep telling you it's great here!

I don't know what all this is about, but he makes a great photo.

And I particularly loved the way that the old cobbled street is still underneath the recent road surface.
Is it just me that loves these kind of places?  I find them so atmospheric.

I still haven't been to Sheffield! It looks like a vibrant sort of place.

No, it's not just you, I love them too. Wish the powers that be hadn't been so demolition happy here.

The drawing reminds me of the comedian Tony Law.
The cobbles look fab, but do good if you're wearing stiletos!

I too love these old places - too many are demolished instead of being re-utilised or regenerated:)
