Vintage heirlooms

When my mum was being "modernised" last year, she had a good old sort out and lots of her old stuff came my way as she hates to throw anything out (thats where I get it from) and my sister is not a hoarder like I am! I love this little jug. It has a fading picture of the Queen mother and George VI on it - I think it must have been for their wedding. This must have belonged to my Grandma. Its a perfect size for a small bunch of flowers from the garden.
My mum also gave me her dinner service - which must be hardly used as I can never remember dinner being served on it! Not even at Christmas! Most is up in the loft at the moment, but I am going to bring it down and start using it (now I have the cupboard space) as its far too pretty to leave up there. I have been using the tureens though - perfect for Spring.

What heavenly china!! You must use it! It is much to beautiful to be hidden away......what a wonderful embroidery it would make ..I may have to try my hand!

I love vintage things especially when they are 'hand me downs' Apart from other things, I have a rolling pin and a couple of ancient pie tins which belonged to my mother. I think of her whenever I use them .

Both gorgeous. My mum has always been a hoarder but she decided to have a sort out last year. I was so upset when I found out that she had sent all her old Christmas decorations, those which I remember from when I was a child, as well as all her vintage knitting patterns, amongst other things, to the charity shop.

Diane the glass jug is too precious to put flowers in it may get broken but do give it pride of place somewhere, love the patten on your dinning service.

That china is so pretty ... you're so lucky!
My Mum is not a hoarder and has never kept anything old. Everything she has is from after I left home so there are no memories there for me at all. That's quite sad!
All my old things have come from charity shops.
Have a lovely weekend!

Hiya,
Thanks for the comment on my blog!
I totally agree about the CK in the CS, I was very shocked to see it, hence the grabbing that took place!
Off to have a look through your blog

It's always struck me as funny and a bit strange that people would have these beautiful dinner services and not use them. I'd be using that every day too, it's lovely and very elegant!

Oh they are both beautiful and glad that gorgeous china will get used. I am not really a hoarder, nothing modern anyway, but I treasure pieces of china, jewellery, Grandma Dolly's chrocheting and other such memories from childhood and love being surrounded by them. Keeping them in boxes just seems wrong :)

These items are so pretty. i love to see a table perfectly set and the tureens and veg dishes will add to the look. I think it shows you have taken time and trouble with the meal and to make your guests feel special. lovely to have handed down things.
