Whitby for Mothers Day

I don't get to spend much time with my Mum on our own, so for Mothers Day I decided to treat us both to a coach trip to Whitby for the day.  We did really well weather wise as the sun decided to shine as soon as we stepped off the coach (although it was very nippy!)

 Whitby is a fabulous place to walk around and I think it photographs so well,

 There is so much to see and do, plenty little alleys to explore and peep down.

 For lunch we had the obligatory Fish & Chips, but for cake and coffee it always has to be the stunning La Rosa.

 Mum hadn't been before and she didn't quite know what to think!  (there is a lot to look at!)  But she did love the cake and the "Throne" that she got to sit in .  It was a beautiful and very peaceful oasis.

 We don't always see eye to eye Mum and I, so we thought that a house on Arguments Yard would suit us!  We did well on Mothers Day though and didn't have one cross word!

It was looking doubtful with the cloud, but thankfully I managed to catch it.

Cote de Bradfield

This weeks walk was around part of the route of last years Tour de France.  Watching the tour on TV, many people couldn't believe how beautiful (and hilly) the countryside  of South Yorkshire is - the ones that don't read my blog obviously as you lot are used to me banging on how spectacular my home turf is.  We started off in Worrall and walked over to the beautiful village of Bradfield.  The large building in the field is a Convent which is still used to this day. 

 Our walk was over 8.5 miles and most of it was very hilly!  But with the hills you do get the spectacular views.

 The series of dams out here were built by the Victorians to supply Sheffield's increasing population with clean water.

 It did start out a very grey day, but we spotted this ray of light breaking through the clouds  - it did look very spectacular.

 Quite a few of the decorations from the Tour still can be found along the way.  Yet another great walk.

Penistone and Harthill walk

Last week we did a great local walk with our walking group.  We set off from Penistone, a lovely little Yorkshire town in the foothills of the Pennine Hills.  We got good weather for it and it we had lots of funny banter along the way.

 We walked on two disused railway lines - the flat bits!

 And then we ventured out into the hills.  There is an awful lot of sky out here.

 The group do like being featured on my blog, but I'm always at the back!

 On the very very hilly parts, I took the opportunity to stop (frequently) to admire the views and realise what stunning scenery we have on our doorstep.

 It was supposed to be around a 7 mile walk but ended up being 8.22 miles.

I can't get enough of the outdoors these days.

A Night at The Museum

Hubby and I spent a very lovely evening at the Millenium Galleries in Sheffield recently.  The evening had a "bird" related theme to run alongside their current exhibition "The Illustrated Aviary".  We got to watch one our favourite Sheffield street artists "Faunagraphic" painting some of her trademark birds - she made it look so easy,

 We also partook in a little Origami.  I haven't done this since I was little.  There used to be a TV programme and I would sit with my 9"x9" square of paper - and get hopelessly lost half way through!!  I still got lost half way through, but the nice chap I sat next to was an expert.

 We were encouraged to make something to fly and then see whose flew furthest.

 He was very proud of his creation - and it did a magnificent and very spectacular loop the loop every flight - but also ended up behind him instead of in front every time.

 We listened to the live music that the museum had provided...

 A fantastic duo call Bird to Beast.  They had beautiful voices and had written their own songs.  A very talented duo.

 The event was free to attend and had plenty to see and do.

I shall keep my eye out for further events as this one was good fun.
