We had to say goodbye to Cumbria. We had loved it so much. We chose out hotel on the lakeside because it had a pool and spa and when we booked it, way back in January, we thought it would give us something to do should it rain for the whole 3 days - we never saw a cloud!
Bowness was wonderful to stay in. It was surprisingly busy and a little crowded by day, but you could easily find a walk to take you away from the crowds, and by evening it had a fabulous continental feel with many gorgeous restaurants to eat in, just a short stroll from our hotel.
We enjoyed a boat trip - so relaxing.
The scenery is stunning everywhere you look.
The valleys are also a training ground for fighter jets and army helicopters - the jets fly very low and make you jump out of your skin, then make your heart stop as you wait to make sure that they make it over the hills.
Bowness was the first place that hubby and I went away together to 23 years ago. I had quite forgotten that until we were there. We won't be leaving it another 23 years to return - we'd never get up those hills!

Thanks for taking us on holiday with you, it was lovely seeing all those wonderful photos of places we visited many years ago. Glad you enjoyed it and hope your long term plans work out for you.
Sounds like you had a really wonderful time Diane and the photos are fabulous and are making me think about when we might get up to the Lakes again (except I can't do the hills...bloody knees). A perfect peaceful break to sit and chat and think about the future too. x
I've been enjoying your Lake District photos, it is a beautiful part of the country. I've only visited briefly, but have been out on one of those rowing boats on Windermere, your photo in your first post brought back a fair few memories.
It looks really wonderful. I bet you're making those plans with mixed feelings.
Sounds like you had a romantic time away. You are on the brink of having a good time together again. A new and wonderful phase. The trouble is time passes too quickly and it will soon be over for us. How lucky you were with the weather. I love the shot of the table and chair and snap! I took a shot of the stone walls when I was in the lake district.
Sounds like you had a wonderful time, thanks for taking us all with you. Your photo next to the end is stunning:)
Such lovely photos. Apparently I'll be going on a boat trip too - which I'm not looking forward to, I don't do boats!
Looks like you had a wonderful time - what a brilliant week to choose weather wise! Thanks for sharing the pictures.
I bet you have a long list of places you and G are wanting to visit!
Thanks for sharing such gorgeous photos with us, it all looks so pretty.

Hadn't checked your blog for a while, was pleasantly surprised with lots of beautiful pictures of good old England. So happy for you guys that the weather so fabulous, it makes the pictures just pop! Even the beers looked pretty! Love to yall! xxxx
Mark and I honeymooned in the Lakes. We haven't been back there for a while so your photos have brought back some lovely memories! Jx
Seeing that little bridge brought back such memories for me. I remember visiting it with my ex-husband and my in-laws. I'd forgotten all about it.

Lovely, Diane and lovely for you both. x
The scenery really is stunning. I would have enjoyed the presence of low flying jets and helicopters, despite having strong leanings towards pacifism. It's contradictory but - they're just so exciting to watch! Lesley
The Lake District is one of my very favourite places. So I loved seeing your pics of the place. Windermere is a fabulous lake, I agree!
what an utterly brilliant trip ....I camped (my one and only camping holiday....) with 2 friends on the banks of Windermere during the famed summer of '76..... no water on site as all dried up but plenty in the lake.....we went to all the places you went from Beatrix Potter to Bowness on the boat, met 7 french guys on holiday in their deux chevaux and joined them on their adventures.....still remains one of the best times ever!! Looks like you had a fab time too...x
You were far more lucky with the weather than my in laws who took their caravan from Scotland to Cumbria for a week and returned home early due to rain every day !
how blue is that sky?
We are back from Wales ...not so blue there these past few days!
