And so the rain still pours down - and I for one am totally sick of it. Its heartbreaking to watch the local news with people's homes and businesses flooded out, night after night.
It was great to be able to get out for a lovely long walk.
The river Dearne is usually a trickle through the Park.
And the lake was a very muddy brown.
I really savoured every sunbeam that shone through the trees.
I have noticed that the rain and warm weather are helping to stock nature's larder. I can't remember ever seeing such a profusion of Hazel Nuts before.
A large tree had been felled at the top of the hill, and it looks as if people have started to hammer in coins - a sculpture that you can contribute to on your way around. We contributed a 2p!
The rolling hills and moors around the park are very green and you can't see much urbanisation although you are very close to Barnsley and Wakefield.
Back in the Sculpture Park itself, we had a wander around some of the new outdoor exhibits. These are by Miro. We couldn't get to look around some of the more spectacular exhibits as some of the paths had been washed away and were roped of - so another visit planned soon then.
Hubby thought that this looked like ET - but with a peg to hang his hat on!
And it did spit a bit on the way back to the car!!!

I can well imagine how you feel seeing the news we get on the UK weather!! We are fed up with the lack of summer here but it not as bad as you. t'other Diane
How lovely to have a bit of time in the sun! Jx
Hey, could you send the rain you've been getting my way, lol? It's been hotter than blazes here, very little, if any, rain where I am. I'm hoping for rain real bad; my lilies out front are beginning to wilt from the heat, and I can only water them at night, so the sun does not burn the flower up or anything
It's been wet and miserable here in Hampshire too. We had school sports day yesterday inbetween the showers. It had to be cancelled last week due to the ... you guessed it, rain! Love your trip around the sculpture park and the last one does look like ET with a hook for his hat!

those views are some I do miss in wales.... the sculpture park is one of my favourite places
as for the rain!
bugger, bugger bugger!!!
It is awful...did you see poor Hebden Bridge on the news?
At least you got some dry weather for a walk, that was unexpected!

I love the sculpture park, sham about your wet summer. We had a very wet summer also, but I don't think as wet as yours.
It would oh so wonderful to wake up to a blue sky and sun shine. Will this rain ever stop?!
I thought that top sculpture might be one of the poor people who have been flooded out of their homes! You always take great pics, I feel as if I have been there. Which is probably as near as I will ever get!
Thanks for yet another walk around Yorkshire. I love the shot of the rolling hills and moors and near Wakefield!! the tree with the coins hammered in is a fun idea.
I still haven't been to the sculpture park, every time you do a post I think to myself that we'll have to go and then we never get round to it. It looks such a lovely place too, I'll have to make more of an effort. These money trees seem to be popping up all over the place now. Have you been to Bolton Abbey? There's a few along the walks there. This weather is getting me down now too. We go on holiday soon so I hope it bucks it's ideas up. I just feel so sorry for all the people who's homes and businesses have been affected. It looks shocking in Hebden Bridge.
I knew you (Brits)are fed up with rain, but didn't imagine you even got flooded! Our news keeps us entertained with the latest Royal scandal :)
Should I complain about the heat then?! Looking forward to getting a massive storm this weekend (hopefully)

How lovely that the sun shone for you. I never know if I like Miro's work or not, keep changing my mind.
Wishing you more sunshine.
I love your trip around the sculpture park.
You were lucky to have a brighter day and be able to get outside and enjoy it.
It sounds as if it has been bad in Yorkshire too.

Those last ones look like something from a children BBC TV series!

I think you've taken us readers to the sculpture park in every season and in all kinds of weather and it always looks wonderful. Glad you were able to dodge the showers. I love the Juan Miro sculptures:)
ooh it does look a bit bleak up there...good luck....but there does seem to be a whole mass of poppies everywhere to brighten our oh-so-dull days!!x
Hope to go there again very soon. It is a wonderful, magical
place.
The resident squirrels will be very happy if we have such a profusion of hazelnuts, maybe enough to leave a few for us.
