From Flamborough with love

So you might have recognised that we visited Flamborough on our glorious East Yorkshire coast.  I decided to go to Flamborough so that I could take photographs for my bloggy pal Chris who moved from here in the early 1960's and now lives in sunny California.  I can't remember if I found Chris, or if she found me, but she has left me some lovely comments and sent me some gorgeous fabrics when she visited Hawaii.

I know that she is often homesick for Flamborough though, and I can totally see why.  Flamborough sits like a great white whale in the sea.  It is a huge limestone headland and the erosion of this headland makes for some gorgeous and very interesting bays.
It is jaw droppingly beautiful.
At Thornwick Bay, we spotted the cafe where my sister had recomended the Crab salads.

You can see the crab pots out in the bay - you know that this is fresh crab!
And guess what - in the cafe, they had an article written by Chris.  The last paragraph of Chris's piece brought a tear to my eye.  Hubby wondered what was wrong with me - I'd only gone looking for mayo!  What a small world it is indeed. (Click to see the full article)
The colour of the sea was amazing.

We had a great time wandering along the cliff tops and scambling down the paths into each little cove.

The bird watching around these parts is off the scale.  There are hundreds of different species.
And especially for Chris, here is the lighthouse where he first told you he had fallen in love with you.  I'm all for as much romance as possible.  You can't beat a true love story. xxxxxxx
I hope you enjoyed my visit Chris.  I took you in my heart and I thought about you every bit of the day.

I'm all for a good romance too. I've never visited Flamborough, but it looks like I should definitely add it to my 'places to visit' list, as it looks beautiful.

This is a beautiful post! I've been to that lighthouse but we didn't have time to explore the beaches - must do so next time, it looks wonderful! I'm sure Chris will love seeing these photos and how great to find that article!

What a beautiful place. I can see why Chris would be homesick. The crab salad would get me there any day. You are tops for doing this post for Chris and I can remember when you did the same for me in Newmillar Dam. Your photos are terriffic.

Thank you so much Diane for making my day and probably my week. You can see why Kay and I love Flamborough so much. We used to live just the other side of the bay at the lighthouse. The house is no longer there. It belonged to the golf club of which my father was the manager.

Mmm! Yummy fresh crab salad! It seems such a luxury now but the fishermen often supplied us with extra crabs. Incidentally I had no idea the folks at the restaurant had even seen my article, never mind posting it. How nice of them! I think I should go over and autograph it for them!! It was an article I did for the Bridlington newspaper -- The Bridlington Free Press. So glad the weather was good for you. Flamborough is one of Yorkshire's best kept secrets and Yorkshire has plenty of other beauty spots.

So nice to you to do this :) :) :)

I'm ChrisJ's sister. Thank you so much for making BOTH of us so very happy, Diane! Your photos are stunning and bring back so many memories. I went back there with Chris after 50 years of being gone from Flamboro Head - it was a very nostalgic and wonderful time. But unfortunately, the cafe was closed when we were there - so yes, we do need to go again soon, so that we can have the crab salad, and so my sister can autograph her article. What a wonderful surprise for her to see that the article is posted in the cafe. By the time she has left this world she will have left a legacy all over the headland! Thanks so much, again!

It's a few years now since we last visited Flamborough, we often visit the coast but miss out on Flamborough, I'll have to remedy that. The crab salad looks delicious.

Weren't you lucky with the weather? The sea and sky are so blue and the light is wonderful - so different from all the grey days we have been seeing recently. I can see from her comment that Chris was thrilled with your thinking of her when you visited her favourite place:)
