Out with the old.

I'm not a fan of New Years Eve. Hubby tends to have to work - like he is this evening. The dancing queen is out partying - like any self respecting 17 year old should be, leaving the young man and I in on our own having a "sad party for 2" (his words, but very apt!!). By contrast, I absolutely love New Years Day. I feel the hope of the New Year to come. I hope it will be a good year and I love the way everything feels some how "new".

We have had a good Christmas here in the Heartshaped household. Everybody seemed to like their gifts, the Christmas Day Dinner went well and everybody got on well. I don't know where the time has gone this week though! Ive managed some walking, some "sale" shopping. People who really know me will not be suprised to know I have done 90% of my entire gift shopping for 2010!!! (Its the Virgo aspect of my personality!!)

Today, we decided to fit in a walk before hubby had to go off to work. We walked around the still frozen lakes in Wentworth. The boys - being boys - tried to break the ice.

Torvill & Dean of the duck world!

When we got home - I indulged in my New Years Eve ritual - searching my garden for signs of Snowdrops! A fabulous sight!

I'm raising my glass to each and every one of you as we prepare to start anew and do it all again! Happy New Year Bloggers. xxxxxxxxxx

Great photos! We don't do New Year's Eve either but like you I like the start of a new year. I admire your shopping foray, I'm not one of the world's great shoppers especially when there are crowdshing for snowdrops though - that's my kind of thing:) They are peeping through in my garden too, amazing when you think what the weather's been like. Happy New Year!

Dear Diane
Thank you for your Christmas wishes! I'm sure your party of 2 will be just lovely! Like you, I prefer New Years Day to New Year's Eve... I may sound like a 'humbug' but the whole Midnight business makes me cringe - especially Auld Lang Syne.... So, I shall have a lovely evening with all my family and I'll be grateful when the Midnight madness is over and we can get back to our game of Monopoly - or whatever has kept us entertained in the hours leading up to twelve o'clock!!
Wishing you a healthy, happy and magical year ahead,
Denise xx

We don't normally 'do' New Years Eve but someone in our house is having a 'Thirties Evening' and the music is getting me in the mood!
Happy New Year !

Happy New Year to you all!
I'll be tucked up in bed before midnight, I too prefer the start of the year to the eve of it.
So impressed with your shopping ability, I can't face the shops just yet!

Gorgeous photos!!!
Your sad party for two will be fabulous fun, you can tell the young man that!

I am not a fan of New Year's Eve, for a start I am scared out of my wits by the fireworks. Just read that in no other country in the world they let of as many fireworks as in this one! Figuring out the best day to emigrate...

Wishing you and your family a gorgeous, warm, sunny and love and friendship filled New Year.
Have a good one!!!

Like you I'm not a New Year's Eve person but like New Year's Day (I'm the other way round at Christmas and love Christmas Eve better than Christmas Day). Snowdrops like New Year's Day are full of promise - glad yours are peeping through in your garden. All my best wishes to you and your family for 2010:)

Happy New Year Diane

My DD was out partying for her first New Year's eve without us ....umm a pile of the group were stopped by the Police & had drink confiscated - lots of drama as you can imagine.

We played a hilarious game of Pictionary with friends but I left them all after midnight-made my excuses and went to bed !!!!

Happy New Year to you !

I don't 'do' Old Year's Night (family tradition to call it that) either. Always go to bed and then moan that the fireworks wake me up!

Happy New Year to you!

Hi Diane, glad you have had a good holiday. New Years eve in St. Ives is a big, big occasion as you might know, but i too was working. The town was heaving as usual, people come from all over the place just to party in St. Ives!!! At least it wasnt raining this year for them, there were some great costumes to be seen! Happy new year to you all !!
