Polperro

I had never been to Polperro, so we decided to go for supper.

I imagine during the day time it gets very busy with day trippers as it is a beautiful little place.  You have to park just outside of the village and walk in, or catch a little trolley bus in.  The walk down follows a very pretty stream.
You meander through very narrow streets until you get to the lovely little harbour.  We read an information board that showed how the village is in danger from flooding from both the stream (which is prone to flash flooding from the moors above) and also the sea.  Its hard to believe that these sleepy, idyllic little places can turn so very quickly into dangerous places to be.
We have been coming to Cornwall for many years now, but generally staying in St Ives, and so it has been great to discover so many more places that I have never visited, but now really love.

The beach at Polperro has the most fabulous smugglers cave - amazing!
Some of the houses are very different too.  The shell house (now a holiday cottage) is stunning,
And I loved the home of Joan the Wad - Queen of the Cornish Piskies.  The wooden carvings around each window or door were brilliant.
So another place ticked off my "list" and another place that occupies a little space in my heart.
And the Fish and Chips were very tasty too! x

Your post has brought back a flood of memories. We went to Polperro for our honeymoon nearly 42 years ago. We stayed at The Mill House guest house. It was October and we had beautiful sunny weather during the day and very chilly evenings. We didn't have a car then so did lots of walking and bus rides out. I still have on my mantelpiece a few pieces of pottery which we treated ourselves to. Thanks for the memories.

Great photos from all your Cornish trips. I love the area, my aunt moved down there when I was was five and we holidayed there for years and visited her quite a bit, but I don't think I've been since I was about nine! I'd love to go back.

Just catching up with everyone's blogs and find you in Cornwall now. I visited for a day about 20 years ago and took lots of photos of the shell house and also a pair of swans nesting on a raft! Wonder if there are still swans in the harbour?

I've loved reading all your Cornish posts. Polperro reminds me of childhood holidays but also of our holiday last year when we visited Looe and Polperro - also Charlestown after the Eden Project. Last year we had to lean in close to that shell house when one of those quadbike taxis they use to transport people and luggage from the hotels up to the top car park came by. Just after that the heavens opened so we hot- footed it down to the Maritime Museum on the quayside to shelter. Glad you had a super holiday:)
