On Ilkley Moor b'hat 'aaaaaaat

Where 'as tha bin since I saw thee (where as tha bin since I saw )
Where 'as tha bin since I saw thee (as tha bin since I )
 On Ilkley Moor b'hat 'at
 On Ilkley Moor b'hat 'at
 On Ilkley Moor b'hat 'at!!!!!

I'm sure some of you weren't singing at the back there .  Did you sing this at school in the south?  Or was it just us in Yorkshire that sang it?

Anyway, It was a bit wild and windy, and not like July at all!  But we did indeed climb Ilkley Moor without our hats (Translation for any one not from the county!).

Looks like a lovely trip out, despite the weather! Yes, they always made us sing that at school! x

I had never heard of this song until one of my friends moved oop north to live with a boyfriend in Keighley. Definitely not well known in the south.
Great photos!

No, we didn't sing it at school! Some of Paul's ancestors come from Ilkley and nearby Menston. He remembers, as a child, being taken to see the Sooty factory there. Looks like a super walk:)

It was definitely not sung in Wales though I did hear it several times on the radio, probably courtesy of Wilfred Pickles...

I didn't sing it at school down South either but I am familiar with the song. I loved the pictures that accompanied it!

We sang it in the East Riding......... with minor alterations to the words, I seem to remember the words "without your trousers on"......... ;O)

You certainly get around a bit - did you sing it in the car on the way there - I bet you did - wild and windy it may have been but it looks lovely.

We used to sing it when there were no Yorkshire folk around to hear, just in case they might be offended....!!
I used to live in the village of Addingham, just up the road from Ilkley, so the moors were a favourite walk on Sunday afternoons. By eck, thy photos bring back memories.....it was back in the 70's.

You mean you didn't need a hat - it wasn't raining???

I rather think we sang a rude version in school - though not when the teachers could hear!!

Its really beautiful up there though, I agree - years since I went but I loved your gorgeous photos.

When I want to school all the kids would just be singing the most popular songs that were on the radio or just mainstream. I guess I'm from a different generation then you.
