We very sadly lost my father in law this week. It is the end of an era.
We have arranged the funeral, and started to sort out all the other details, and we have the awful task of clearing out the house. However, something that excited me is finding boxes and boxes of love letters written by Hubby's mum and dad to each other when they first met and he was in the Army.
I'm so sorry to hear about your father-in-law. Hope you and your husband are doing OK, my sympathies to you both.
The love letters sound interesting, I hope you can sort them in order and maybe write up their story. And look at that fabulous old case with them all packed in. Letters are of a bygone era now, it's a shame. xxxx
Hi Diane, my deepest sympathy to you and your family, sending you all a big virtual hug.

So sorry Diane, to hear of your loss. Those letters will be a priceless treasure.
Sorry to hear about your father in law. Clearing out is, as you say, such an awful task.
I'm not sure how I would feel myself about someone else's love letters - it might get embarrassing !! But a lovely reminder to have anyhow.
Sorry to here about your loss hope the letters bring a smile to you and hubby
So sorry to hear of your sad news, Diane. We send you and your family our deepest sympathy.
I found a shoe box full of all the letters my dad wrote to my mum whilst he was doing his national service in Egypt. My dad had beautiful handwritting and he wrote of such love and devotion for my mum - obviously, I cried buckets when I read them. Sadly none of my mother's letters to my dad could be found.
I often feel that I should destroy them, because they weren't written for anyone elses eyes but my mothers, but I still have them. It's hard to get rid of something so precious.
So sorry to hear this sad news Diane. However those letters look wonderful and I'm sure will bring comfort to you all. Hugs.
I'm a stranger as have only been following you for a short time, but I wanted to send you my condolences for you and your husband's loss. My parents died back in 2007, and it's been hard clearing their stuff, indeed a lot of it is still in our old home as we had to clear it from their flat in a rush. At some time we will have to be more ruthless, but I would urge you *if possible* to take your time rather than just getting rid of things willy nilly. I have a few letters from my Dad to my Mum when they first met, though post war. And I feel a bit like Jill as to whether I should keep them now. But you have such a cache of letters there, I bet there's loads of interest in them!
sad news. I hope you find the story in the letters x
