This summer there won't be a cloud in the sky.

I'm patiently waiting for summer to start. Tonight, I have put the heating back on and I am watching the rain bounce down. However, the weathermen have promised me a summer hopefully to equal 1976 and I do like a soundtrack to accompany my summer. I remember most summers by the songs that played on the radio when I was younger. Mungo Jerry - in the summertime takes me right back to Blackpool Prom in the late 60's. Anything by the Beach Boys makes me want back comb and peroxide my hair into a bushy bushy blonde hairdo. I remember David Dundas with "I pull my blue jeans on" and Queen singing "Best Friend" the year I left school in the summer of 1976. My daughter always makes us a CD to play in the car to drive to our holiday destination. Last year, the first track on the CD was "Lost in France" by Bonnie Tyler - we had bought a satnav to avoid that very problem!!

I fell in love with this song a while ago - the chorus makes me feel like I am 17 years old and have fallen in love for the first time. As the very talented (and I think quite tasty, but I really dont know why) Mr Glen Tilbrook says, "This summer there won't be a cloud in the sky". Wishing you all a summer of love, fun, happiness and most of all SUN!! Turn your sound up, click on the link below and take a listen.....

Thanks for introducing us to that Squeeze song, not one we've heard before.

I hope we do have a warmer, dryer summer this year. More memories whilst visitng your blog - London August 1975 was very hot - the pavements were so hot they seemed to burn through the soles of your shoes - the theatres were unbearably hot - I saw 'A little Night Music' on my birthday - the year after was even hotter - I remember watching Arthur Ashe win Wimbledon at a friend's flat with every window open to gain air.

Summer songs - I guess I remember Lovin Spoonful 'Summer in the City', Mungo Jerry 'In the Summertime' and 'Fame' by Irene Cara.

We put our heating back on, on Wednesday 'blimey' it was bbbrrrrr freezing!!

I remember all of those songs from my parents taste in music and still love them very much today though I would have to say 'In The Summertime' is my favourite.

take care and thank you for the comment - it's lovely to meet you,

I know what you mean about that squeeze man. I can tell you the emergency services round here are on red alert for floods ... grr... perhaps the clouds are getting it all over and done with before our 1976 style summer. x

The week before I started work (6th June 1976) it actually snowed!!!. I remember my friend going to Cornwall on her holidays and she only took jeans and thick jumpers. However, the day I started work was the day that the red hot summer started. My friend spent nearly all her holiday in hospital with sunburn and heat exposure!! Bring it on!!

Hee hee, had to laugh about the gin and Jeremy Kyle! Every time she sees me I get a lecture about how her children hardly watched any TV when they were young (nor did I, there was bugger all on in the 80's!). I am so tempted to reply that yes they do watch some TV but at least I'm not forever remarrying and moving house... but that would never do would it :D

That's spooky - 1976 was the year I started work too! But in November, so I had all of the summer laying in the back garden! My God, what wonderful memories of the heat and the music.....
