Little Longstone Well Dressing

In summer, the tiniest of villages hold "Well Dressings" where the old wells in the village are dressed with pictures made with flowers etc.

At Little Longstone, there were 2 - one made by the children,
and the other made by the elders.
The soldiers jacket was made of sunflower seeds.
The pretty little church in the village was open for a flower festival - and tea and cakes. So in we went.

Should you find yourself in Sheffield on Saturday , do pop into the Vintage Fair at the Town Hall and say hi to my pail Nicola who is dipping her toe into the Vintage market. You can find her on her "Be Beau " stall where she has a selection of wonderful goodies. Tell her I sent you. xxx

We were lucky to catch the well dressing at Tissington this year .... I'd wanted to see it for years. It's such a lovely English tradition.

Your comment made me giggle as I was thinking of non English Bloggers Googling " Cream Crackered" !
" Miriam had to Google " Blimey " & translates it as " Holy Macaroni " !!!!

The well dressings are lovely - I like the one with the soldier and the nurse what a lot of work has gone into them both! The church looks very pretty inside and out and, of course, tea and cakes have to be sampled:)

Wonderful, there must be a lot of work put in to those. Have a lovely time in Devon, I'll look out for you.

Those well dressing pictures take hours to make! The one of the nurse and soldier is very good, but I like the children's very colourful one!

What a lovely tradition. Those pictures made from flowers/seeds are beautiful and the little church is so quaint and ancient.

Lovely post and I enjoyed reading about the well dressing tradition which I had never heard of...but then such things don't exist in London to my knowledge. I loved the pictures, and can appreciate how much thought and work went into creating them.

Hi Diane

I think it's wonderful that this tradition is continued today, and that the children participate too - what wonderful designs, and the seed one is amazing! I meant to say, met your friend Nicola in our local post office the other day, a chance meeting and a lovely surprise! Hope you're well, much love J x
