Park Hill Flats revisited

So where did I go next? Park Hill Flats of course. I wanted to see the neon sign that the developers had made from the Graffiti that I told you about. So hubby drove around until we finally found it. Now this is currently not a good part of town, and hubby was a bit on edge as I walked off to find the walk way where the Graffiti has been traces with illuminated neon.

I absolutely love it - and when it gets darker, I bet it looks even better!!!
I really hope that Urban Splash manage to market and sell these flats to people who will take pride in living here, because they deserve to be loved and lived in. The exhibit in Weston Park Museum about the flats is my favourite exhibit in any museum and is so moving. They are a fabulous piece of social history in our city. I really want it to turn out well. And the sunset alone from the top of this (one of seven) hill is enough to sell it to me.

Often Sheffield can be lovely lovely lovely. Even the not so good bits.

Lovely post - that is a beautiful sunset!

As everyone knows, I'm a city hater, but I do quite like Sheffield - it's the best city I've ever visited and if for some reason I had to live in a city, I'd choose Sheffield as it has lots of nice bits and plenty of things to see and do and discover! (That and it's next door to the peak district!).

The neon sign was a great idea, I wonder what it looks like at night?! I'm not familiar with the area, but perhaps getting some people in who are happy there and have pride in where they live might help to improve the area and it's reputation. If there is some regneration there, perhaps in a few years it could be a desirable part of town?!

Glad you found it.

I'm afraid I've a similar view to your hubby, Diane, I wouldn't fancy being round there after dark. Maybe I'm getting old.

Loise: It is a lovely city, allegedly the greenest (most trees) in the UK.

I'm ashamed to say that even though I live so close to Sheffield I've never been there except to drive through it or catch a train from there...except for 2 trips to Heeley city farm.
Will really have to remedy this over the summer.

Hello Diane

I have never been to Sheffield but you are doing a great promotional job, so, perhaps I might even take a look next time I'm in the UK.

Ahhh, and they say romance is dead, I bet it looks great at night. Lovely sunset.

I'm not sure if they are the blocks of flats we used to see from the upstairs of the bus when we used to travel through to Sheffield from our village for shopping - this was late 50s and 60s so a long time ago. I do hope the re-generation project goes well as it would be a shame, given their interesting history, if they were to be lost or abandoned - the sunset photos are wonderful:)

Great pics and brilliant idea about the neon sign.

I've seen a couple of documentaries about these flats over the last 2 or 3 years and the regeneration. They were much loved by the original tenants and hopefully will be again - I think it is just bad timing with the state of the economy. Fingers crossed they get there in the end.

as always, love your pictures. The idea of turning grafiti into something more is quite interesting. Glad that you were able to find it and take a pic. Love the sunset shots too. Have a happy weekend. :)

I'm afraid it would take rather more than a great sunset and a neon sign to make me want to live in Park Hill flats:):)

Urban Splash have made a great job of some old industrial buildings in the centre of Manchester, I am sure they will be a success!

ive recently done some research into the i love you bridge. from what ive found its actually quite a sad story. bbc 4 did a documentary about it not long ago that you might be interested in. though if you like it just the way it is sometimes its better to just think of it the way you do in first impressions
