The woodland is owned by the national trust and had a decent path along the way.
You know I love a good information board! I had never heard of Brook Lamprey!! Hubby commented that since I now take hundreds of photos an hours walking now takes two hours! But we do see so much more!
Whilst the day was very dull and lacking in obvious colour,
this was not taken in black and white, even though it looks it!
there was plenty of lovely to colour to be found if you looked hard for it.
You can always rely on Post Office red to brighten up the day!
We eventually arrived at Calver and had a coffee stop. You may recognise Calver Mill. It was once a cotton mill, and is now luxury apartments, but it was used in the filming of Colditz for the 1970's TV series.
We crossed over one of the many fabulous bridges and walked back on the other side of the river.
There are some fab des res houses along the river bank, and lots of snowdrops too.
Once back at the car, we decided to have a quick drive into the market town of Bakewell.
Hubby always manages to get me here just as the shops are closing - its a skill he has perfected over the years.
And then back home. We thoroughly enjoyed our mini honeymoon.

that was a beautiful walk and very interesting- pity you missed the shops-but good excuse to get back there one day !
I've enjoyed this post and your photos... I love digital photography and how we all take far too many pictures now that its so easy! It does make you notice a lot more and see things that you wouldn't have seen if you hadn't lingered to take a photo! Dave and I can easily take 500 each on a good walk!
I was thinking about Grindleford and Froggat the other day as I haven't been there for a little while. Last time was perhaps 18 months ago when I walked frogatt edge barefoot as my shoe broke!
I don't think I have ever been to that woodland but it looks very nice! I must go and explore it soon I think!
I recognize all the places in your photos, it's a lovely area. I must say I didn't know that Calver Mill had doubled as Colditz though! Glad you had a nice time.

Looks a wonderful walk - we are exactly the same taking photos along a walk - I love it that you can just snap away without incurring any costs and there is always something good in the end. We drove up that way last week from Bakewell to Hathersage. I always thought it was King John who died from 'a surfeit of lampreys' but apparently it was Henry I - like the children's drawing of a lamprey. Love the posts boxes and teddy bears - never knew that was where they filmed Colditz - used to watch it with my Dad:)
A very refreshing read along the trail, and the Hotel info is great too.

I used to go biking along Froggat Edge... and Bakewell... I'm misty eyed thinking of the Bakewell Tea Shop... ooohhh what I would do for a Bakwell Tart!!! I used to love seeing all the trout in the river, so close you felt you could catch them in your hands... Whah... I'm homesick!!! Thank you for posting this! Lx
This place looks lovely, it reminds me very much of Oundle. Which also is an old market town and has a river. I can only imagine how pretty this will be in Spring/Summer time. I do miss the green leaves and colourful flowers. Plenty of ducks for my boys to feed, here ducky ducky!

can't believe it Diane, we went for a walk yesterday and I took photos JUST like yours....a post box....a wakk covered in moss.....a bridge.....it must be something taught to boy 'How to get to the shops just as they are closing' I think they learn it in school!

Although I loved them all, the post boxes in rouge made me smile! I agree, walking anywhere with a photographer takes much longer. Just ask Peter, Mary and Genie and everyone else that's slogged around Paris with me! :)
That was a great walk - and some fantastic shots taken on the way I love that bright green moss on the wall.
And Bakewell - its ages since we've been there. I love it - and the Bakewell puddings!
I love the moss covered wall, I think moss is so tactile. I intend to visit Derbyshire this summer, my mum was born there and spent her young life in children's homes there. She wants to go and visit some old haunts and it will be nice to revisit them with her.
