The park land at
Bretton Hall, where the
YSP is situated is stunning and very old.
We decided to walk up to the
Longside Gallery - about a mile up a very steep and muddy hill (much to the young mans utter
annoyance - he dislikes "uphills").
The Lakes remain from when this was a stately home.
Even the old gates are magnificent.
Stopping half way up the hill - to admire the view! You can see
Bretton Hall, and the
YSP Galleries behind. Until recent years, the hall was used by the University of Leeds, I believe that they are talking about it becoming a hotel.
Once inside the
Longside Gallery, you can see that they bring the outside in as a backdrop to the pieces.
Continuing the round walk, we discovered the "Basket" - a
strange folly like sculpture that the young man was forced to admit was "cool".
Perhaps all teenagers should be caged!!!
The woodland walks are really pretty - and you end up quite high up.
We discovered an old well - it looked like something from "
Indianna Jones"!
So far, I am enjoying our
Staycation.

Lovely photos, thanks for taking us along. x
We didn't make it up the hill last time we went but I have been up to see the cage and there were some Andy Goldsworthy sculpures up there too. Its a great place.

I'm so impressed that your young man enjoys going along with you ... sadly our son gave up doing that years ago.
I'm enjoying your staycation too.
Love Kathy xxx
I'm enjoying your days out as well x
Yes, I remember it being quite a long walk but there are various points of interest along the way as you illustrate so beautifully. Last time I was there, we found a cornfield full of poppies on the hillside.
Stunning autumnal colours!
Diane, the young man looks alike his lovely mummy!

Just caught up with your staycation posts. You do have a great variety of places to visit.
Hope you enjoy all you have planned for the rest of the week.

Looks a lovely place! I'm sure that my friend's daughter studied music at Bretton Hall in the 1980s - was it a college or attached to a University at one time?
