The latest head gear.

On our walk last week, this large flying creature was especially attracted to hubby's head. It just wouldn't leave him alone.

There were lots of them about. I don't know if it is a dragonfly or a damsel fly. Does anybody know?

I think its a dragonfly.

Lovely things, but not on my head!

I had a big one in the house this summer, was quite scary and really noisy!

The dragonfly on the leaf is a Hawker or Southern Aeshna. Its Latin name is Aeshna cyanea and it is one of the larger dragonflies. The one on the head looks like a Brown Aeshna, but I cannot see the diagnostic features very clearly. They are magnificent insects.

What beautiful creatures....... I seemed to remember that there was a way of telling them by how they rest their wings when not flying, so I googled and found this:

I would run a mile if it came anywhere near me, we get them resting on the side of the pool & they are very beautifull

Damsels and Dragonflies are lovely - their wings are so beautiful.

But not sure I would like it on my head - but then I have more hair!! ;)

I love dragonflies - the ones by the stream must be damselflies as they are so small & flit by quickly with a flash of colour

I think when I was looking it up re dragonflys there is something about the wing shape mentioned. You might find it on this site:
