Sunflowers

These little beauties are providing me with sunshine in my garden - even on days when the sun refuses to show.

They have 10 really large flowers on them and I have positioned them in pots by my door to create the impression that you are crossing some Tuscan field to get to me!!!

I'll definitely grow more next year and I'll be feeding the birds on the seeds all winter long.

They are absolutely gorgeous, I love seeing sunflowers but I've never tried growing them. I think that next year I shall treat myself to a packet of seeds. These will be a real treat for the birds in winter.

Wow, they're really big! I've never had much luck with sunflowers ... the heads always end up facing next door! I love fields of sunflowers in the south of France. Have a good weekend!

The field of sunflowers behind our house are looking very sad, going brown and drooping, however the birds are coming in their droves to enjoy the seeds. This morning the power lines were full, just like a sheet of music.

Fantastic, even when the sun isn't out there must be a permanent golden glow in your garden. My sunflowers are nowhere near flowering, I'll be lucky if they ever do.

I never thought about putting them in pots; good idea! I may try some next spring.

Whenever I have deliberately planted sunflowers they have come to nothing. This year I have a sea of sunflowers at the bottom of the garden from where my dear late chooks churned some seeds into the mud. So if anyone is thinking of planting them next year just buy a big bag of bird food sunflower seeds!

I failed this year in the garden, no sunflowers, no dahalias, and very few beans-got lots of tomatoes though!
